I've always been a fan of college sports, particularly basketball, and have pretty much written off the NBA as a source of entertainment with it's multi-million dollar head cases, thugs and punks.

And then I read stories like this... About Kevin Love's (playing for UCLA) visit to the Univ of Oregon in recent weeks.

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/sioncampus/02/26/abusive.fans...

Has our society really degenerated to this point? I mean, throwing things at a group of people that included his 13-year-old sister and grandmother? Are you serious?!!

Maybe I just need to go down another notch and become a bigger fan of high school basketball.

I'm not an Oregon alum, but I do live in the State and this is just embarassing...

Dude, you need to go back and check up on your Trail Blazers.  They've cleaned it up. Brandon Roy alone is worth it.

I've always heard it said, and I repeat it often:  "The fans care more than the players."  It's true, and starting to get out of hand.

As soon as Darius Miles is off the roster, then we can talk. Once that happens, you can call me a "fan" again, but even that's limited to the Blazers, because they've finally gotten it right (again) after so many bad years. And yes, they've made HUGE strides with the team and in the community. Somebody finally "got it" over there.

But the league overall is still a mess and as much as David Stern would like to think that their media saturation with "Where Caring Happens" is going to solve their problems, it isn't. The hole that they've dug themselves into just keeps getting deeper. The Zach Randolph's of the world are still out there, making their millions and laughing all the way to the bank.
