Just got back from 3 days in Mammoth riding the mountain bike park trails and all I can say is wow. What a great place to ride, you can ride every kind of trail imaginable and the roads are excellent for riding as well, I wish I would have had a road bike to ride also. Only problem I had was getting used to the elevation (7500 - 11,000ft) man did I get out of breath on some of the uphills and even some of the down hill. After several years of mountain biking this was my first time on "real" mountain trails. If I could train in Mammoth all the time I'd be in good shape. If you get the chance to go there you should, the biking is great so is the scenery.

It's beautiful.  Great running trails too, but the altitude will get ya.

I still haven't MTB'd there, but I've trained on the roads.  Here's the profile from Snowcreek Condos in town to Minaret Vista above Mammoth Mtn ski area

Well Chris unfortunately I can't see your pic (red x only) but I can picture the Minerets in my mind, once you've seen them you won't forget there unique profile. Speaking of running trails, I twice came across runners going the opposite direction on single track bike trails - not cool. When I come hammering down a single track I am in control (mostly) but not likely to be able to stop in time for runners coming from the other direction.

We are planing to get another trip there before the end of summer, my kids loved riding the trails.
