Subject: Specialized Transition Component Sets
Hey all,

I am finally ready to buy a tri bike, and I've pretty much decided to go with the Specialized Transition. My only issue at this point is which build i want to go with: the entry level Comp, or the slightly better Expert. There really isnt much difference between the two, except a couple of component changes. The Comp is comprised of Shimano 105 and Ultegra components, while the Expert focuses on using Ultegra and Dura-Ace. Also, the Expert uses a slightly upgraded wheelset from the Comp ( Mavic Ksyrium Equipe v Mavic Aksium ). The price difference between the two bikes is only $700, so I was wondering if i should go basic and upgrade later, or go ahead and get the better components now. Is the extra money really worth it? Or should i find a better way to invest it into other bike parts? Any opinions would be wonderful. Thanks a lot!

Here's what I'd do:

If you're willing to drop $3700 for the Expert, I'd get the Pro frameset for $1300 less and build it with the components you want. Since the frameset is pretty loaded as it is (includes seatpost, stem, headset and front and rear brakes), that $1300 could go a long way.

And in the end, you'd have a custom bike for abou the same price (especially if you e-bayed the parts).

Agreed... That is what I did. Check my album for pictures. Further the '09 Pro's are starting to ship so you might get a killer deal on a '08 since it and the S-Works are the only two that have changed for '09.
