Actually this is first year I've had the experience of passing other swimmers (I've beefed up my swim training from when I used to race years ago). Partly I think it helps to seed yourself where you think you will end up - front, middle, back of the pack. There is no avoiding totally the washing machine at the start of the race, but as the field spreads out, it should be easier to pass. And remember that drafting on the swim is legal, so if you can't muster the speed to pass, there is no penalty. |
