Subject: Advice re first bike please

I'm preparing for my first triathlon (March 2009) and need a bike.  Two Kestrel bikes have been offered, one the Kestrel 4000 and the other is the Kestrel Talon.  Both are asking $1,000.  Assuming good condition, is this is a good bike / appropriate cost for starting out?

Originally from UK (Now live in BC, Canada) so not familiar with the Kestrel brand.

Your primary consideration should be fit. Have you been sized by your local bicycle shop, someone knowledgeable enough to do more than have you straddle the bike?

Are these new bikes or used? If used, how old, how many mies?

What level components?

Lots of road bike options for $1,000...

ditto on fit. will be lots of great closeouts for 1,000 and less in coming weeks..
