Just wondering if this is possible and if so how to do it?

Depends what type and where you want to put it. People regularly put countdown tickers in their Goals section. If a widget requires an embed or script tag, it won't work. Straight HTML will.

We're working on a site redesign right now and are looking at opening this up to make this possible,  partly with an upgrade of the version of TinyMCE that we use.

When the training logs were first developed widgets were a very obscure and immature technology, and were also a huge security risk. Things have obviously changed, and this is functionality that we do need to include. I personally have a couple I'd like to include in my training log.
