Tour stage winner Astarloza suspended after failed doping test

The International Cycling Union (UCI) announced Friday that it is suspending Spaniard Mikel Astarloza for failing a doping control June 26, which was 25 days before he won the Tour de France's mountain stage to Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

On Friday, the UCI announced that Astarloza tested positive for recombinant EPO, a blood booster, in an out-of-competition control. He is the second rider from the Euskaltel-Euskadi team to return a positive doping control in June. Inigo Landaluze was suspended in July after twice testing positive for EPO CERA.  The International Cycling Union (UCI) announced Friday that it is suspending Spaniard Mikel Astarloza for failing a doping control June 26, which was 25 days before he won the Tour de France's mountain stage to Bourg-Saint-Maurice.

May want to edit the title. The doping wasn't IN the tour, it was out-of-competition almost a month prior to his stage win.

Also, they're still working the B-sample.

True ... but the implication is that the doping was done to prepare for the Tour.

I am not certain about how all of the EPO + blood doping works but have heard more than once that the real time to test for doping is not during the Tour but before it as many of the benefits are gained then?
