![]() Swim
Comments: Had a great swim, water was pretty cold but I don't remember feeling that cold while swimming. Felt strong for the whole swim, got bumped a bit, bumped a few people and actually passed some people from the wave in front of me. Came out feeling great. What would you do differently?: Could have pushed it a little harder on the swim. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Hands were numb, could not get my bike gloves or shirt on, probably helped my T1 time. What would you do differently?: Sit down to put on socks and shoes, kept almost falling over trying to get the socks and shoes on ![]() Bike
Comments: I think I made a mistake keeping my HR too low on the bike. I think I got passed by everyone in my AG on the bike. I lost all my advantage from the swim. My plan was too keep my HR low and make sure I would not die on the last stretch, I thought I would catch all of the people who passed me on this stretch as it is slightly uphill and usually windy. WRONG! I probably did not get my nutrition right, I drank 1 bottle of HEED, 1/2 bottle of water and ate 1/2 Cliff bar and a few Fig Newtons. I figured I was hydrated enough because I had to stop to pee. What would you do differently?: Definately should have pushed it harder on the first 30 miles. Not sure about not eating or drinking enough. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Had a good transition, sat down, took off the bike shorts I had on over my tri-suit. Put on fresh socks and my running shoes. ![]() Run
Comments: Never felt good on the run. Running is my strongest discipline so I was real dissapointed in my run. I walked all the water stops and sometimes inbetween. My stomach would cramp up everytime I stopped. I had to pee so I felt like I was hydrated enough but I tried to keep drinking, tried some orange slices, Cytomax. It was like the Battan death march at the end, my goal of 6 hours was slipping away. What would you do differently?: Don't know what I could or would have done differently on the run. If I had pushed it harder on the bike would I have had the same run? ![]() Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: I stuck to my race plan, I just made a mistake on what the plan was. I had skipped a couple of my long ride/runs for one reason or another, this came back to bite me. Event comments: I'll have to do this race again now. All in all for my 1st half it was O.K. Woke up at 4:30, ate a pb bagel, 1/2 bannana, cup of coffee. Drove up to the race, it's only about 45 minutes from home. Felt good, not too nervous.
No warmup, it was cold!
