well i live in Canada at the moment and i'm planning to do the nations triathlon in DC, it's my first OD tri.

i'm not particularly in love with my current bike, it's pretty decent but i was recently in hawaii and rented a bike and it felt fine.  i'm going to be in DC 5 days before the race so i'll have some time.

seems like  renting is a no brainer, anyone ever have issues with this?

My son recently came out from California and rented a bike for the NJ State Tri (I live near DC and will be doing the Nation's Tri too).  Rather than ship his bike, and all the stuff he needed for his new baby, we rented a bike from Big Wheel Bikes in Arlington, VA/Bethesda, MD.  For the weekend, he was offered a Quintana Roo Kilo, or an Orbea Aletta for $125, or a Guru Racelite Carbon for $250.

He decided to go with the Orbea.  It was a really nice bike and in perfect condition.  He brought his own pedals, but they have clips available.  The shop did a basic fitting.   Overall, pretty good experience.

I've rented a bike before for a sprint race and I had no problems.  I did take it out for a couple of rides just to get used to it.  Go for it, just make sure you have the right size.
