Hi jdfrog - I had something similar.. basically: last year, I had a bad leg cramp
(for about a day
) - it passed, but there was an area in my upper / outer thigh
(quad area - about the size of a man's wallet
) that was tingly, pins and needles-like.. sort of "asleep" - no real feeling. ....and it never went away..
I saw my ortho Dr. - he examined me and basically said I have a very slightly pinched nerve
(probably in my pelvis area
). That was causing the numbness in my leg.. because it's not painful and not causing any harm, we decided to just leave it.
He gave me a series of stretches to do - and proceeded to tell me that "Runners are like hamsters - you go round and round in circles". He believes that because I was running in the same path, on the same side of the street, that my right leg was over extending.. and over time, caused the pinch.. I now run on alternating sides of the street and on different routes
(believe it or not, this really helps
).. But the numbness is still there - it never really went away.
I hope you don't have anything serious - have the Dr. check it out and make sure you tell them about your training
(how far you're running/biking/etc
) and for how long.. My orthopedic has a sports medicine specialty and they are pretty "in tune" with these types of injuries..
Keep us posted - Wishing you the best.
