TBF
65+F / 18C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 46m 1s
Overall Rank = 178/379
Age Group = CLYSDALE
Age Group Rank = 1/8
Pre-race routine:

Up early to eat and drive to event. Ate pasta for breakfast at about three hours before start.
Event warmup:

Quickly walked all the transitions and the first mile of run. Swam about 100 yrds in between start waves.
Swim
  • 23m
  • 1050 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

warm up bit more, go out stronger. felt like i had a lot left at the ende even when was picking up the pace.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

it went well. getting up to speed went real well. got to the trans. exit behind four others but was down the road as they were trying to find their pedals.
What would you do differently?:

not wear a shirt. getting shirt on took more time than expected. who would have thunk a dry shirt will not go on a wet body easy. big lesson learned.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 14.25 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Gue taped to bars worked as designed. One tug and it was open and ready to eat.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. stand up and attack the hills.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

overall it went well.
What would you do differently?:

next time will get some of those things that deal with laces. putting double notes in shoes like i do for the kids took too long.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

carried no water which was fine. drank a small amount at half way. the gue at ten minutes before run seems to have worked well.
What would you do differently?:

train more. before i decided to do this thing, i was riding and swimming a bit but was not running at all. at the time of the event, i was running two to three times per week but only running the three miles i would do in the event. additional training will include some speed work and longer distances. maybe, something that will help me make it to the olympic distance events.
Post race
Warm down:

walked and drank

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training. need many many more miles of running.

Event comments:

i think i was average but i don't have much to base it on as it was my first race. i was impressed that it started on time and there were not long lines at check in. i did find the fact that i could pick up my race package the day before but needed to pick up my swim cap the day of the race a bit of a drag. it would have been nice to go lineless on race morning. it is a snag i don't quite understand.

TBF puts on a good event.  I think the swim cap thing is for them to verify who is actually there and racing, so they can "count heads."

Good job on the race!  Was it your first?

Thank you for the kind words and the explanation. it is nice to know there is a reason.

I will say it is my first race as it is my first race with this body. I did a couple of these things a little over twenty years ago with an early twenties body. The early forties body is a little more difficlut to handle.
