Subject: Things that annoy!
Local paper just posted a review of two new energy/nutrition products. The first are those new Clif Shot Blocks, sort of a solid Clif Shot for those who really need to chew something or don't want gel to get stuck on them... Here's the relevant part of the review:

Sometimes, the products that drop into our laps for taste-testing scream for an explanation. Like the new Clif Shot Bloks, handsome little packets of jelly candies made by our local energy bar gurus here in the East Bay. Each packet contains six three-quarter-inch squares of super-sweet, OK-flavored jelly candy. They're like Knox Blox, but with a whole lot more calories. The Bloks, the packaging explains, are for athletes on the go — say for a cross-country runner who has no time to eat, drink or rest. I know lots of people who work out — even every day. But I don't know a single one who works out so long and so hard that he would wither without sustenance while he works. In fact, most of the people I know work out in order to burn calories.

!!!!!!!!!!

This person really needs to get out more.

Ok, my rant is over.

Oy!  Well, I suppose none of that person's friends go out for 4 hour bike rides, or 2 hour runs, or does anything other than spend 45 minutes of the elliptical trainer at the gym, while watching Lost (nothing againsts elliptical trainers or Lost).

I can't say I eat gels or energy bars every day, during every workout.  But if I'm going to be out for more than 45 minutes, you can be sure I'll have one in my pocket just in case.  And I certainly qualify as someone who "works out in order to burn calories."

Of course, in this country, as we well know, we have an over-nutrition problem, and the general public (ie those folks who don't meet the weekly minimum of exercise) don't need any more quick, easy to digest carbs.

For the record, I do know at least one person who eats those (in my opionion nasty) Tangerine Power Shots just as a regular snack, because she thinks they taste yummy.

Oh, and I think I'll have to check out the Clif Shot Bloks.  Sounds interesting.
