Well, I suppose none of that person's friends go out for 4 hour bike rides, or 2 hour runs, or does anything other than spend 45 minutes of the elliptical trainer at the gym, while watching Lost (nothing againsts elliptical trainers or Lost). I can't say I eat gels or energy bars every day, during every workout. But if I'm going to be out for more than 45 minutes, you can be sure I'll have one in my pocket just in case. And I certainly qualify as someone who "works out in order to burn calories." Of course, in this country, as we well know, we have an over-nutrition problem, and the general public (ie those folks who don't meet the weekly minimum of exercise) don't need any more quick, easy to digest carbs. For the record, I do know at least one person who eats those (in my opionion nasty) Tangerine Power Shots just as a regular snack, because she thinks they taste yummy.
