Just saw a guy get tagged!!!

Scarey. I was on a ride a few days ago with one section that is really a lot of fun to ride. It is a curving hilly section that almost makes you feel you're on a motorcycle if you get some good speed (which is pretty easy given the downhills and customarily light traffic if any at all). Well, I was swooping into a downhill turn that I knew was going to be sharp and had to cross the centerline a little to keep out of the bushes. Also, due to the dense vegetation I couldn't see around the corners for oncoming vehicles. As I was approaching the turn I thought to myself, "man, if a car came speeding around this corner from the opposite direction it could be the end of me." A microsecond after I completed that thought I hear the revving of a 4cyl engine coming from around the turn. 2 microseconds after I finish the thought a beat up old blue datsun pickup comes screaching around the corner partially on my side of the road!

My road bike seems to be built to go straight because it hates to turn (at least for me) and the brakes are fine if you have a runway to deccelarate on. I attribute some of this to being 6'5" tall and 255lbs on tires that are about 1/2" wide.

Luckily, Mr. HotRod sees me and hits his breaks causing the back of his vehicle to slide out a little. He was able to get control and save us both from what would have been a very disruptive event. I had my helmet on and the hospital my wife is a charge nurse at the ER was only 2 miles away... but still.
