Subject: iPod (or any warranty) and Visa...

Hey...Not sure if everyone is aware...but if you use your Visa card to buy some things, they will extend your manufacturers warranty up to 1 year...no extra cost!!!

My 20g ipod's clickwheel went south a couple of weeks ago - 4 weeks after my warranty was up. Took it to the Apple genius bar - where they declared it broken, but could have it 'fixed" ie replaced with a refurbished model for $250. Well the new ones only cost $299!! I wasn't a happy camper - the guy was not helpful at all and went on about how I should have purchased the apple care policy for an extra $59 bucks....blah...blah...blah...

So I came up and checked what I bought it for (and with what credit card)....went to www.visa.com/eclaim - filled out all of my paper work - got a call last night from Visa saying that they authorized me to go out and buy any replacement I wanted and they would reimburse me for up to $299 (which is what I paid for my ipod in the first place.) American Express does this as well (I'm not sure about the other cards). Nice little feature from credit card companies that I'm thinking a lot of people aren't aware of. Anyway...just ordered my new 30g Video ipod from Amazon (for $284)...and you better believe I paid for it with my Visa.

This doesn't work on any Visa card, unfortunately.  It's only Visa Signature, Platinum Visa Check, and Gold Visa Check cards according to what it says on the Visa website.

Hmmm....maybe worth a call to your visa card issuer...My two visas are just platinum visas - not platinum check and both of them have the benefit. Some of the services are up to your card issuer. I just called on my Amazon visa which I just purchased my replacement on - just to be sure, and it has the warranty service as well. I think whether a card has certain features is left up to the bank who issues the card - and I'm going to be pretty careful about reading up on my cards from now on. Its nice to have the feature if it is indeed available. My Amercian Express also has the same warranty extension feature (I called to make sure)
