20 minutes of very slow jog and walk.

  • 29m 28s
  • 3.11 miles

Comments:

This is my first race in 20+ years. My last race was a half-marathon that I completed in 1985. I've been running since Jan 1 - not that long, but I have three years and thousands of miles of cycling for an aerobic base.

What would you do differently?:

Not quite as much warm-up. I jackrabbited a little bit at the start, but, the only way to get better at racing is to continue.. to race. Next race is Legal Beagle 5K on March 11th. I beat my goal of 30:00 and also beat my previous best in a 5K of 31:21 23 years ago!
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around, talked to other runners.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Training, maybe a little less warm-up, I think I could have cut :30 off of my finishing time.

Event comments:

Very good start to the season! I'm still pumped about my finishing time, and looking forward to better than in my next race!

Scott:

Congrats on your PR ... reading the race report makes me homesick. (I know the hills that you are speaking of and remember them to be deceptively bigger than anticipated - especially the one near Shimmels.)

All of the miles racked up for the February run challenge are paying off!
