Pre-race routine:

The race started at 11am. I did not eat or drink anything since the night prior at about 9:00 PM. Slight oversight.
Event warmup:

None
Run
  • 00m
  • 5 kms
  •  min/km
Comments:

I felt good on the run. My training has been fairly hill intensive and that served me well. I am unsure of total run time as this event was timed as a whole. Swim, transition, and run.

The run came before the swim.
What would you do differently?:

Eat.

Comments:

Felt good. Swimming is my weakest event. This went well. I was on this girls heels the whole way. I just did not have enough to pass her, She maintained a very consistant pace. It was interesting, but strange.
What would you do differently?:

Need a swimming coach to determine that.
Transition 2

Post race
Warm down:

Walk from the finish to the awards area.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of racing to this point.

Event comments:

This small race has the best awards of any race I have done. They were giving away Bike Jerseys, Air Tran tickets, and a bunch of other goodies. Of course, I did not win anything.

Course: The run was a touch longer than 5k this year. There was about .2/10ths of a mile added at the beginning. This year, due to a broken gate (at this beautiful multi million dollar pool) we had to run out, around a building, then back onto the regular running course. The regular course was fairly difficult. Many hills, muddy trails from a night full of rain.

Man - what's up with not winning the Airtran tickets this year?  I thought that was a shoe-in?

Congrats on a great small race.  Wish I could have been there to challenge you - perhaps next year?

R: Sorry you had to fly solo on this one. Where it all began.

Definitely a weirder start with the run prior to the swim. I want to talk with you about that. Good performance and you finished stronger than last year. Next year; Airtran tickets!

Good luck in Tampa/St. Pete.
