![]() Swim
Comments: Poor swim, got caught up in the pack and never managed to get into a rhythm. Course was quite tight for the number of swimmers in the wave. Fell over whilst getting out of water, lost time and made myself look a right tit! What would you do differently?: Would have benefitted from going off harder at the beginning to try to get some clear water even if it had meant going anaerobic. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Was too hyped up after falling getting out of the water and messed up getting my suit off. Knocked my bike off the rack which broke the threads holding my shoes up and knocked one of the shoes off the pedal. Had to clip it back on before heading out. All in all, a pretty good demo of how *not* to do a transition. What would you do differently?: Calm down. Adrenaline rush from falling made me make stupid mistakes. ![]() Bike
Comments: Bike was good after a poor swim and disastrous T1. Haven't done enough speedwork for a better time. What would you do differently?: Need more practice at bike mounting with shoes already clipped in. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Left getting my feet out of the shoes until too late - had to brake hard for dismount point, nearly missed it. Calves started cramping as I tried to get run shoes on. What would you do differently?: Practice dismount more to get better feel for how far in advance I need to start getting my shoes off. Work on calves a bit more to prevent cramping. ![]() Run
Comments: Severe stomach cramping at the start of the run. Took first 1km to get up to speed. First few hundred metres was *really* slow. Second lap was very good though, felt fast, although struggled a bit with breathing as hadn't drunk enough on the bike (very dry mouth). What would you do differently?: Need to do more bike-run brick sessions in training. ![]() Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster: Poor swim, poor T1 and stomach cramping at start of run. Generally good performance considering no tapering and I've been doing mainly base endurance training and very little power work. Event comments: Fast, flat course. Liable to be a bit windy but generally good PB potential. Good organisation and it's nice to be pampered with some proper toilets and changing facilities for a change! Who on earth manufactures those t-shirts though and what shape are you supposed to be to fit them? Last updated: 2006-03-03 12:00 AM
