Subject: RE: Low/high gears and HR monitors We generally speak of a higher gear as a harder gear and a lower gear as an easier gear. This is probably fron gear ratios, which is the number of times your cogs turn with every turn of the pedals. Big chainring (53) divided by the little cog (say, 11) equals a gear ratio of ~4.8; little chainring (39) divided by big cog (say, 1.6). Higher gear=higher ratio=harder gear.
