I have not found a good answer for a question I have been pondering on for a few weeks now.

Let say I am following a training plan that calls for (3) 1 hour rides a week.  Is there a benifit to making one of those rides a trainer drill ride folllowing the instruction of a DVD?

I have never seen a plan call for a trainer ride so Im wondering when to fit them in.  Seems like the drills would be benificial?

There is definitely no problem adding in trainer rides to a plan - as you are thinking they are a perfect way to do drills that would be impossible or unsafe on the road.

I would probably mix up your times a little rather than riding 3x1hour. Instead maybe a 30'-40' trainer ride (drills), a one hour mid/high zone 2 ride and a 1:30 long ride (high zone 1, low zone 2). If you use a variety of workouts, the stresses your body has to recover from are different and you will therefore become more fit.

yeah I like the idea of mixing up the work outs but I think you should do more trainer rides.

Then again I think trainer rides are so much better than the road. Once I fall in love with the road then watch out I will porbably burn them like I do the trendmills. The idea of drills does sound very good to me.
