I finally signed up... and not a day too soon.  As per the www.triandduit.com website:

Latest News:

Cedar Beach Triathlon

Only 48 spots are left for this Sunday's Race. We have registration available on Thursday night at Sunrise Tri during packet pickup. We anticipate the race selling out by Friday night, so don't delay.

I'm in.  Who else is?  Anyone who competed last year offer any tips specific to this race course?

My ankle hasn't fully recovered from Montauk's HIM - but I'm in.

It would take a lot for me to miss out on the last triathlon of the year.

Unfortunately I'm out, a visit to the doctor today confirmed that I can't race with the current condition of my foot. I'll still be out volunteering and cheering you guys on.

As far as the race course, use your momentum for the hills. There are some great opportunities to save time by working the downhills and only putting in 10-15 seconds of watts into the uphill. The run is nice and flat.

It's going to be a great race.

Matt - what happened with your foot? Both of my ankles have been shot since Montauk. I figured it had to do with the steep hills (up and down), combined with the added weight of soaking wet shoes. My feet felt like cement buckets after mile 6.

Erik - No need to carry me, I would only slow you down. These things are never meant to be easy. I hopped on the bike yesterday for 30 minutes and felt fine. I then hopped on the treadmill and my body told me “no way!” after 45 seconds. I’m sure I’ll rebound by Sunday.

Dan - I was hoping to do a 5K portal - Not :-)

I did the Clinic a few weeks back and the course looks relatively easy in terms of hills. I’m not saying it’s a breeze, but there is no “Moore’s Hill” to worry about.

I'm also looking forward to ending the TRI season as it's time to hit the ICE as in ICE Hockey!

Yeah, what's up with your foot?

Funny cause my left foot is very sore and my feet were never sore after a race before...

Dude, I can't wait to play some ice ...I played for like 10 years straight but gave it up in the beginning of the year in favor of tri-training.  I played at the Rinx in Hauppauge.  I played intramurals and for blueline hockey.

I missed last year due to my little guy, but I'm going to join the winter league at the Rinx. I have to see if my old team is still playing.....

Any interest in playing this winter ?

Maybe we could have a Tri-Ice Hockey Team ?

Sure, if it's intramural.  I'm sure I lost a bit of timing so I'm sure if I could compete in blueline right now -- plus the blueline games are 11:00 at night and I don't get home to 1:30 AM.  I'm done with those days.  Playing on Sunday evenings works for me.  I think the Winter Intramurals starts up right after Thanksgiving.  Plus at the intramural level, I'm a stud

Going up murder hill, I just kept saying to myself "that hill in Los Angeles was worse!" And it worked.

If you squint, you can see a few people running up it. Poor souls.

HOLT SMOKES that hill is steep! Was that the hill from the TRI in LA ?

Dream – I’m one of those dudes that schlep out of the house @ 10:30 for a 11:30 game. I’m going to ping my old team and see what the next tour is like. Hey.....we can talk Ranger Hockey at SB this weekend "-)

Anyone else in for SB ?

You know it - had to run up it twice. Good times!

On a positive note: I just went to the gym to get a run in - my legs feel 110% fine right now, so it looks like I'm good to go for Sunday. Laughing

My right heel is beat up from my running shoes. I couldn't get the shoe snug enough and it rubbed my right heel raw. I raced sockless (which I've done for a HIM before) so I think that compounded the problem. Now I have an infection which is sidelining me for the race. Thankfully my doctor has me on some medication that should have it cleared up within a week.

My ankles were a bit sore as well, I think it was due to the hills and the sections of road that were very slanted.

Race day is tomorrow! I'm sure everyone is wrapped up in Kona right now, but I hope everyone has a great race in the morning

Wow, you are a brave - brave man to go sockless for a HIM.  I'm to wussy to go sockless in anything longer than a Sprint.  Tomorrow, sockless.  Take your meds religiously and heal quick.

Holy shite... how about them waves?  That was by far the toughest swim I've ever done.  That was more like the Atlantic then the Sound.  I felt like it took an eternity to swim to that first bouy.  I am so glad I have a few OWS under my belt, otherwise I would not have made that.  Charlie, Lunchbox, said he saw the kayaks bring in a bunch of swimmers.  Glad it's over

Those waves reminded me of the ocean, but I enjoyed it as it was challenging. For those of us that swam at Sunken Meadow or Cedar during the summer all the practice paid off. There were a few swim sessions that was choppy and having this under my belt really paid off. I noticed a lot of people struggling during the swim as well.

I was caught totally unprepared by that water, and once again (like the LA tri) ended up getting motion sickness because of it.

Other than that, had a great time. Nice to see everyone there!

Good times...  killer swim.  It was my first and I was a bit panicked about the OWS to begin with...  I did 2 OWS practices at Sunken Meadow and neither prepared me for that!  I was something like 44 Min for the swim which is pathetic (my goal was 35 (still weak but I am a weak swimmer) but at least I made it back and was able to recover for the rest of the race.

Great race!

The water was certainly a surprise, but it was pretty fun to be out there. All in all a great race as expected. Congratulations to all who finished, it was a tough race!!

Andrew1801:  Dude, for your first OWS finishing it was a huge win.  To be honest, if that was my first OWS, I may have not made it!!  With conditions like that, you can't focus on time at all.  Fantastic Job everyone

Thanks Mate.  Much appreciated!  Waiting till the spring for the next one is going to be tough.  I guess it will give me some good time to train.  I got ready for this one in 6 weeks...  I am looking forward to seeing what I can do with more time.

First post here, had to see what people were saying about that swim.  That was only my 4th race (all sprints) and nothing even came close to those conditions.  Interested to here from the vets on where those conditions rank on a 1-10 with some of the other tough ones.
Seriously, Andrew1801….huge props for tackling that for you first OWS.
Look forward to chatting more with everyone.
