Melon Presser 52116 | Subject: MAY "You MAY Pick" Challenge--ALL WELCOME! Let's see if we can't drag some newcomers to BT/triathlon in and all help each other get to our start/finish lines ... For this May 2012, challenge, you MAY pick any two activities (any more than that will make my head explode). They have to be quantifiable (distance, hours, sessions, etc.) They do not have to be triathlon or even sports related. Examples: 12,000m swimming, 300mi biking To sign up, just post in this thread that you want to join! You can figure out your specific goals later. We (who's we? Can someone co-chair, please?) will post a spreadsheet for you to officially post your goals on, and we may have teams. (ooh, competition, fun) You MAY proceed! |

Subject: RE: MAY "You MAY Pick" Challenge--ALL WELCOME! TriAya - 2012-05-01 5:47 PM Ha! Then I'll definitely sizzle away! Eco's pretty motivated - got to meet her last weekend, and anyone than can be a full time mom, manage a photography business AND get into triathlon, well... I don't think I have anything to offer to motivate her more. I think it might be the other way around, especially once IMTX is over. So my goals will be (1) to not get that post IM depression and training slump, and (2) get a tattoo after IMTX.ironultrared - 2012-05-02 6:28 AM ecozenmama - 2012-05-01 4:57 PM I'm in! I thought about my goals, so here goes: Train more with my 7 year old. She wants to do a race, and needs to work on her swim and bike, so I will find some more time to work with her. Sleep more is definitely on the agenda. I don't take enough time to rest, so that would be helpful. Last but not least, spend time with Rachel, so she doesn't kick my behind! My ears also perked up over tattoo, I want another one, so maybe girls time at the tattoo parlor??? |

Elite 3913 far northern CA | Subject: RE: MAY "You MAY Pick" Challenge--ALL WELCOME! Alrighty! I've got my bike goal for the month! I'm going to ride 180 miles. It's a little less than I need to do to get myself on track to meet my goal for the year but when I looked at my training plan for May, I had to reduce my goal. BTW....my name is Tracy. I've been on BT and doing these challenges for a looooong time. I've missed the challenges the past couple of months. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of the new people and it's nice to see some familiar faces! Cheers! |

Oh everyone has differences of opinions regarding running on a treadmill. I experience issues with my form and gait as opposed to running outside and on trails, but apparently this is false and NO one else has ever experienced this problem. I even admitted that it was a personal problem I was experiencing, with balance issues and such, but seemed to be the target, even though others were stating they had stride issues, etc. as well. I guess it's ok to answer or give an opinion as long as you have all the answers already. I thought this was beginner triathlete, and that instead of being snarky, they could have helped me understand a little more. Sorry, feel like venting a little since I felt singled out when I felt like my concerns were legit. |

As for me, I run on a treadmill for about half of my miles. I have a 3 year old. Gym childcare is my savior! Last year, I lobbied to get some super fantastic treadmills in the gym. They bought two Woodways. Wow! Wonderful!!!! The difference in the way I run is like night and day between the Woodway and the "other" treadmills. I prefer running outside. Unfortunately, my toddler does not like being in the running stroller anymore. The bike trailer is a totally different story, though. He LOVES it!!!! Argh!!!!! |

I had issues running on treadmills... But... I did get orthotics and spent some time with a physio on the treadmill so I learnt what i was doing to cause the problem... While Ive been super lazy recently I did get back to the treadmill a couple of times a week earlier in the year and for half an hour at a time (walk warm up, walking and jogging alternating, walking) without issues.. I was also stretching.. This might not work for you but I think there was something about how I adjusted my running style when I was on the treadmill causing the issue. I also was carrying quite a bit of extra weight which would have made the problem worse,At the end of the day the person that knows your body best is you! Edited by kaqphin 2012-05-03 5:04 AM |
