Signed up a couple of weeks ago. This will be my first time in Cozumel, but I've done IMFL several times, IM Lake Placid, and Hawaii. Looking into some lodging. Any suggestions on where to stay and where not to stay?

Hi Cliff!

This will be my first time going to Cozumel and I ventured out of the norm. I decide to stay off the beaten path and found my own hotel. I chose Hotel Villablanca Garden Beach. (google earth)

Here is another link to the hotel

I spoke with someone there and was told the hotel was 5k or 3 mins to town by car (finish line area) and
and about 10 min by car to the park swim start.
I am heading to Cancun the last week of February and I will be making a trip to Cozumel and will be
checking out the hotel, swim area, and I am sure I'll have to ride at least one loop of the course; better yet,
I'll be doing videos.. not that there isn't enough of them on you tube.

I did Cozumel in 2010 and am going back in 2012.  I rented a private condo in 2010 about 3 blocks from the finish. If you do some internet searching you will find tons of condo rentals in Cozumel.  For 2012 I'm renting a private condo on San Francisco beach - about 5K from the start.  My husband and I found it was really easy to get around by scooter, but there are more then enough taxis available too.  I don't  know what hotels are good or bad, but I would recommend looking into condos if you want to a home away from home.  We had our own private pool, outdoor grill, kitchen, laundary room, free wifi, purified water, etc... it was very nice and relaxing!  Maybe some other people can give you feedback on various hotels where they have stayed.

I'm in!

We vacation in Cozumel for our annual dive trip.  We're planning to make a vacation of it and take the week after the event to blow bubbles.  I'm on the fence as far as where to stay - whether in town or further out.  Either way it'll be a cabride to the start.

I'll be scouting out a couple of places and work with my local contact when I'm there in January.

I took the leap this week.  I have some muscular imbalances to fix, but I'm excited.  I'll be focusing on running, my biggest weakness.  My number one goal is to make it to the starting line with no injuries.  See you on the thread this coming year!

Hello!

I've booked my place for 2012. I still need to sort out flights and accomodation though, so i'll be paying attention to any advice on those.

This will be my first Ironman. In fact, I haven't done any form of triathlon yet but I expect I will get a few under my belt before Nov.

What kind of weather does Cozumel experience in Nov?

Hi everyone! I am soooo jealous all of you are doing Coz! It is my favorite IM, just everything about the island and how they treat the participants is amazing. I stayed at the Palace hotel which is across from the finish and it was awesome. I highly recommended it. The swim was incredible, like swimming in a glass of water. The biking was windy but again fantastic. The run had people cheering the entire time!Good luck everyone! Have fun training.....Alicia

I'm sitting this year out as I continue to build/take care of a few other race priorities (5th go at Lotoja), but I'm definitely in for 2013.  Race day will either fall on, or a week after, my daughter's 10th birthday, making for a great racecation/birthday present.  Good luck to all of the 2012ers!

thanks for the link! I live in England so the temperatures for Nov in Cozumel will be a real treat.

not so much skipping the little stuff - more compacting it into 1 year. i'm going to try work my way through all the triathlon categories, building up to the big day...

Hey Alicia....just how windy was the bike???  I'm considering this race...but wonder about the bike.  I'm not fast....usually average 15-16mph on a good day.  I'm training on a computrainer and it's definitely helping, but wondering if the wind will make me too slow.

I'll be augmenting my training this year with kettlebells, P90X, and some really good chiropractic care.  Strength training and body work are two things I neglected in 2010/11, which is why I was such a collection of body parts malfunctioning together.

And not to get too terribly sentimental, but the race is on my dad's birthday, whom I lost this October.  I'm racing in his honor and for Type I diabetes awareness.  He became a diabetic at age 11 and suffered with it for 45 years, so it only seems appropriate for me to suffer for a day.

Thanks for the information! This sounds great, can you tell me the name of the place you rented in 2010?
