My training has been all over the place and I am worried about having enough training for the May 15th race. I was out of comission for over a year due to a rugby injury and hadn't started back exercising until this January for a Tri.
A year without exercise drove me crazy but being this out of shape is driving me even crazier. I am really slow and mentally that is killing me. I used to run 6-7 min miles and now they are more like 12 -15.
Plus, I really concern about the breathing technigue (both sides)

Plus, If someone has the HRM Polar Tri watch and knows how to get a min, max and average HR in the Basic Use/ stop watch mode...I would appreciate the help

i am not try to complain at all, i am just concerned and frustrated

Please tell me that these are typical feeling when starting to train :-(

Believe me, there are few things more frustrating that knowing that you could do better, used to do better, etc. - but at this point in time you can't. In just 3 weeks of inactivity you can lose a considerable amount of fitness. You've been out for a year. It will take time. Know this - you once were able to do 6-7 minute miles and there's a good chance that you'll get there again. But it took you a year to atrophy to 12-15 minute miles. It may take a little more than a couple of months to get back...

I don't know what distance tri you have in May, but if you're goal is to finish a Sprint or Oly in good health, smiling and no puking, then yes - I would think that it's entirely possible. If you're looking for a podium spot, I can't help you there

I don't know if that helped at all whatsoever, but go out there and do your best each day. Never accept less and know that you aren't capable of more at that time.

Please tell me this is normal

Brother are you in the wrong place to hear that! Seriously, you describe what just about everyone else here has felt/is feeling prior to their first race. I certainly did. Based on your training log and the time left until your race, you'll have no problems finishing. Don't let your frustration hamper you, let it fuel you.

One trick I used to breathe on both sides was to always face the same wall when breathing, no matter which direction I was swimming. That way I wasn't thinking about breathing on a particular side, just looking at particular wall. It helped quite a bit. And the Total Immersion book that everyone recommends is great.

Thank you both for your help. I am not giving up...regardless.

I will try the wall thing on my next swim workout and see if that helps.
