Subject: Thank you BT: First Tri TomorrowI'll be racing in my first tri tomorrow. I started this journey back in early July, out of shape and looking for a goal. I was watching an EliteXC run-up show and they showcased Nick Diaz, a popular MMA fighter, doing extremely well in Auburn's Greatest Half. I thought "Hey, I should do that!", and so it began. Some of you may have seen my post two weeks ago about a little incident I had at a clinic. I nearly drowned. That proved to be a huge milestone in my journey as it affected my training and my mindset. I've only been in the water twice since, and have only done so to maintain my fitness. Prior to the event, I was very gung-ho about training. My goal was to beat 3 hours and I was well on track to do so. While I have been training since then, my training has been far less intense, though I have certainly not been slacking. I pretty much stopped filling out my training log, but I'm confident that I have done enough to meet my goals. One thing the incident has done for me is remove the pressure. I had put a lot of pressure on myself to perform. I'm now pretty laid back about the whole experience and am very much looking forward to the race, and not necessarily to some arbitrary level of performance. I do have every intention of beating 3 hours, but won't be crushed if I miss. I just wanted to throw a post out there to thank all of you for all of the invaluable advice, and the questions that brought so much information out of so many talented people. As I approach the end of this first part of my journey, I am in the absolute best shape of my life, both mentally and physically. Thanks to triathlon and it's community, I'll never be the same. |
