Subject: RE: My swims after biking/running2 thoughts: 1. If you are doing it right, you support your body and keep it balanced in the water with your core. If you tire out your core by running or cycling, you are going to have issues supporting your body and you will sink. This can also screw with your roll and coordination between your hips and shoulders, leading to other problems.
2. If you are supporting yourself through kicking and then your legs are tired from running/riding, you may have the same issue as above. If you don't feel sore or fatigue during your swim, I would guess you just aren't using the sore muscles, which is why your form is going to crap. For instance at the end of a long or hard set, when my triceps and back start getting tired and sore, I have a tendency to drop my elbow. If I drop my elbow, those muscles don't feel sore or fatigued (because they are under less load). When I recognize I am doing it and correct it, they start to complain again. I would focus on core strength for a while (do a quick routine every night before bed) and when you have to run/ride before a swim, spend extra time warming up with drills that focus on good form.
