Im from florida which is a nice state but I have a friend in Red bluff and was considering making my way up there.  Is it a good area for training?  I know its farm country from what I hear.  Whos from that area and hows the climate for training?  Any good places to swim?  Is it more a mountain bike area opposed to road bike?

Red Bluff is very hot and dry in the summer. I can't imagine training after 9 or 10AM in the summer. There seems to be a committed cycling community up there, especially in the Chico and Mt. Shasta area - lots of cycling events. My parents live near Red Bluff - Tehama County, and the cycling isn't bad, but roads can be in poor condition, often turning to gravel if you get too far out. There's open water swimming available at Black Butte Lake (if the reservoir is full) or Lake Oroville. In fact, there are triathlons held at Lake Oroville.

Red Bluff is around 600 feet above sea level I think, perhaps lower.  Summer temps are typically high 90s, but don't let 105 be a surprise.  It is generally flat around there, but you can drive to mountains if you need hills to climb.  There are YMCA's nearby like $4 a day for lap swim without a membership.  OWS as stated above.  There should be some decent flat roads to bike on.  Specifically the road towards Chicho seems in ok shape.  Not sure about other info.  But ya prepare for hot 90-105 with 110 not impossible.  From September to May the climate is awsome for training.  From June through August, hott.

In consideration, it is very hot and dry in the summer months. I would think you could train all year there. It snows in the winter where I am from (mt. shasta) so I head south to bike in Redding. Red Bluff is close to Sacramento for events and close enough to the mountains for training in a higher elevation in the summer months. Tin Man Mt. Shasta in Sept. Hope this helps.
