well i read this thread:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp?tid=164759&start=1

as well as this article here:

http://www.slowtwitch.com/Training/Running/How_to_Kill_Your_10k_PR_258.html

kind of got me thinking.  since my volumes are not very HUGE in terms of running, i was thinking of devoting the next 4 weeks purely to running with only 1 day to a long bike ride and 1 day to a long swim.

i have an HIM comming up in Nov and wanted to find out if 4 weeks of a pure running routine with maybe 40 mpw would lead a an increase in both speed and endurance.

thoughts?

Your logs show 66 miles total in May, and right now on target for the same total in June.  Unless those are wrong, or a serious anomaly for you, suddenly bumping to 40mpw sounds like a recipe for injury to me.

Why not just slowly increase run volume while maintaining others?  You'll sacrifice less fitness in s/b and your run increase will be less likely to sideline you.

I'm not a coach -- it's just a question.

Either that or a serious overuse injury.  Bad idea.

I agree with Experior. Unless your current volume is less than normal, suddenly bumping it up more than twice as much could lead to injury. Building volume takes time. The body needs to adapt. Potentially you could build to 40 MPW in about 3 months. Plus just running 40 MPW for 4 weeks may not yield huge gains. It's averaging 40 MPW for several months that gets results. Building run volume like this may be better left to a time of year when you're not also actively training for triathlon races.
