Subject: tapering
Hello,

I've got my first sprint tri next weekend, and I've been training without a training program (I understand that wasn't too smart, but I really wanted to do a triathlon, and I didn't have a lot of time).  So, my last two weeks of training have been pretty rough for me.  I have been doing 7-8 workouts at around 250 minutes, and this past week, I'm going to top out at 300 minutes.  No big surprise, but I feel pretty wasted.  I've read that 20% off is good for tapering, but I would love to take much more off... like maybe 50% off with only doing 3-4 workouts.  Is it possible that I would be tapering too much?

Thanks,

Jonathan

Tapering can be a bit of an art form.  When I used to swim competitively, each person would react a little differently.  Some would need more time, some less.  Some had to reduce the load by a lot, some very little.

Listen to your body. If you feel like you need more rest than definetly take it and let yourself recover. I think 3-4 workouts in the week leading up to the race seems reasonable. Good luck and have fun!

Great, thanks for the help.  I'm going to go super easy, and we'll see how it turns out!
