Of course swimming, cycling, and running more often would probably help in most of our cases... but what about some other "things" that could possibly help?

I can think of a few... but would like opinions.

Strong core - Of course having a strong core is important, so there's core work

Strength training - I'm thinking of starting p90x (which would also help the core) after IMKY.

Staying flexible - start stretching and using triggerpoint therapy more often (just bought it on Sunday)

Nutrition - this is an obvious

Sleep - also an obvious

After hurting my back Sunday, and my bothersome knee problems this year (last year an 8:30 minute/mile pace was easy, this year I can't get into a groove even with a 9:30 minute/mile pace before getting knee pain), I began to think about what I'm missing while I'm doing all of the SBR stuff that can help reduce chances of injury for next year.

Any others ideas to help sbr and staying injury free? Thoughts/opinions on the above?

If you can afford it, I'd say a coach would be your best bet.

That's what I would like to do, but how does "hiring" a coach work?

Do you hire him/her for an entire year (during the off season and during season)? Or just for the season?

Will he/she help with the above mentioned? Are they knowledgeable of how to help increase fitness while staying injury free, or would they only specialize in swimming, biking, and running?

I'm extremely curious about getting a coach, but don't want to bother if I can't even get my joints working properly during the winter, heck... I'm only 27 and I feel like I'm 67.

I am also looking into a coach and from what I have found out what u get varies. Most of them are monthly fees ranging from $60-$200 per month. They all seem to have different levels of coaching ranging from email/phone support to one on one in person support. The ones that I have talked to all develope the SBR workouts, but also help and advise with nutrition, cross training and such. Don't be afraid of the "low ball" price of some coaches, I learned that they offer the same services as one charging a lot more, but the difference is, since they are less expensive, their athletes tend to use them year around rather than hiring a coach for a month or two. Then the athlete goes it alone because they can't afford to pay $200 a month for very long. Just give a couple coaches a call and talk to them, if they sound like what you want work with them, if they don't want to talk without you paying them first, politely hang up and move on to someone else. Just my .02.
