Subject: Question about patching a tube
I just had to patch a tube during a ride to make it home.  The patch I used was a sticky backed piece of plastic about the size of a business card that I got free from a bike shop.  My question is: should I just replace the tube right away, or will the patch hold to get some more use out of the tube?

This is the first time I've ever used a patch at all.  Other times, the tube was so bad it had to be replaced.

Thanks!

No way to tell for sure. I've patched tubes and have then used them for quite a while, but other times they go flat again pretty quick. If the tire is still about fully inflated tomorrow, that would be a good sign.

I'm not positive but I believe you used a tire boot, not a patch, for that repair. Tire boots are to put on the tire itself after you've gotten a tear in the tire by running over glass or such.

An innertube patch is along the 1/2" X 1/2" size.

Take a look here:

After you patch a tube if it holds air, keep using the tube. If it has a slow leak, see if you can live with the speed of the leak and if you start going flat during rides, pitch it.

Yeah, just checked.  That was a tire boot.  Guess it'll probably hold for a while on the tube.  Laughing  Thanks for the info.
