Hi, thought I'd introduce myself.

My name is Matt Sammler and I'm obviously from Iowa.

I did my first triathlon last summer and was hooked immediately. I'm looking at 3 this summer, with the focus being on an oly in August. My athletic background was that of a highschool football, basketball and baseball player. I ran track, but never over 200 yards so the endurance stuff is still fairly new to me. Swimming is not my strong suit, I don't have a problem with the sprint distances but I'm slow and wear myself out pretty easily. Biking is my favorite, though I'm dying for a new bike because my Trek 1200 (circa sometime in the 90's) is slow, heavy, and loud.

I've got an 8 month old daughter that rules my life, so training has happily taken a backseat this year.

Welcome! You'll certainly get ideas on training from this website! Good luck in the 3 tris. What are they?

The first is in June in Palo, Iowa - it's a sprint 500 yd swim, 15.5 bike, 3.1 run...#2 is a repeat of the one I did last year, 400 yd swim, 13.1 bike, 3.1 run...#3 is the Big Creek Olympic tri.

I'm pretty excited about all 3 but really the Olympic. It'll be hot here in August so I can't wait to see how that 10K feels after 24 miles of biking.

welcome to the site...8months olds (or kids in general) could be a blessing in disguise for triathletes...they usually create much needed rest days that we otherwise wouldnt schedule...especially with the usual overzealous trianing of first timer.  take it when u can get it...train when u can...i think my running is progressing along better than i could expect with this mentality (1 year old, third trimester pregnant wife).

although a little late, congrats on your new family too.
