Overall Rank = 94/135
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 20/26
Pre-race routine:

Banana, cup of coffee, Raspberry smoothie, stretched at home
Event warmup:

Getting the runs at a gas station prior to the race
Swim
  • 31m 13s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

This was my first olympic and second tri prior to a 16 year absence. Swimming is my strongest leg, so I actually did very little training. I took slow easy strokes to save energy for the bike.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Had a really hard time getting my singlet on.
What would you do differently?:

Different singlet.
Bike
  • 1h 18m 23s
  • 24.9 miles
  • 19.06 mile/hr
Comments:

I ran a sprint last year and was passed by over 200 people! I had one of the slowest times on the course at a 15.1 mph avg. So, I bought a road bike this year and so far, have only focused on a solid base, no speedwork. So... I am stoked, excited, elated, ecstatic, you name it with this ride. Though I was 100th, the top bike was like 1:00:00. I was only 18 minutes behind!
What would you do differently?:

Speedwork
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Right shoe too tight and had to stop to loosen it.
What would you do differently?:

Get those speed lace things.
Run
  • 57m 4s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 09m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Humidity was 88% and temp 80 F. It was crazy hot. I decided after first 10 minutes that I'd run-walk. The temp was like a 15 degree jump over the past two weeks and I hadn't done much running for this event.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't plan to do much with the run here... I was really focusing on the bike and it worked out (which it did) I'll do some speedwork for my next sprint.
Post race
Warm down:

None

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Heat

Event comments:

Post-race food was in a field house that seemed to be airconditioned! There was lots of pasta, bananas, red beans and rice, oranges, bagels, bagels w/ peanut butter. Post-race was really good!

Nice Swim and Bike!

I hate the runs before an event! Better before than during!

Sounds like all you need is a little speed work and you'll be on your way.

Good luck in the future,

Randy

PS: Have you tried wearing your singlet while swimming?

Great job on your first Oly! It was WAY Hot/Humid that day, so you overcame the environment and finished strong. I might do this race next year...
