Age Group Rank = 21/59
Pre-race routine:

drove over form hotel and set everything up. line for the bathrooms was long so we missed the pre-race meeting, but no big deal. ate a bagel early and then luna bar and a gu right before start.
Swim
  • 28m 52s
  • 1760 yards
  • 01m 38s / 100 yards
Comments:

getting in and out of the water was basically single file on a steep ramp. people were barely in the water when the horn went off, so there wasn't much warming up to be done. all in all though, it was my best swim ever. wetsuits are excellent
Transition 1
  • 02m 37s
Comments:

was slow putting socks on wet feet, but other than that it was fine.
Bike
  • 1h 20m 39s
  • 27 miles
  • 20.09 mile/hr
Comments:

rode the new bike and it felt more comfortable. the only issue i had was popping my chain just after a turn onto a steep hill. getting clipped in and moving was a pain, but after that the bike went well.
i didn't push too hard because i have not done enough hill work and didn't want to blow up. i was chasing timmy the whole time since he had a great swim and i thought i might be able to catch him. didn't happen though. overall, i averaged over 20 on a hilly course so i am happy with that.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

couldn't catch timmy on the bike, but i finally saw him again in transition. he was hurrying to get out of there and get a lead on me on the run and they called my name on the loudspeaker as i finished the bike. he was cursing me as he ran off and i heckled and screamed at him as i changed.
Run
  • 32m 55s
  • 5 miles
  • 06m 35s  min/mile
Comments:

best run of my life. caught up to tim and talked for a minute and then settled into a great pace. sun came out so i started to heat u a little, but i felt great and couldn't ask for a better time.
Post race
Warm down:

hung out with tim and cheered in k. line for food was really long so we just got on the road.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mostly bike speed and hill work.

Event comments:

i like this race. the transition area was great (except the bike entrance and exit was the same side which isn't really right). the whole area around the transition, start/finish was a great park. there was plenty of parking and nice open fields and lots of area to move around. the volunteers were great and water stations were good. got a cup instead of a medal for finishing, which is pretty cool if you are tired of medals. i guess you might be bummed if it was your first tri.
as i said the bathroom line and food line were rediculous, but for some reason it didn't bother me. i would do the race again.

Congratulations and great results. Especially since most of the local tri clubs were there and using this as their club championships. It sounds like everything went great.

Excellent race!  Way to have the "best run of your life".  You were going super fast.  And, I agree, shortened swim course or not... I am just going to pretend I am that fast.

See you there next year?
