Subject: HR Monitor Question
Can someone recommened a decent HR monitor thats not overly expensive. I am new to the sport, planning on doing my first tri in april and would like to get a heart rate monitor to help with the biking and running training. I dont think i need one with all the bells and whistles that run $150 -200 range. I am more looing for something under a $80, but not sure what features I need and what decent companies make them. If someone could tell me what to look for in the features that i will actually use to aviod buying Premo' Edition or a piece of crap, i just looking for decent middle of the line. Thanks.

there are several threads in the gear review message board, you might want to start there.

I use the Polar FS2. It is a very simple model, which is good because I don't want a lot of info. The heart rate is in a big display. It does avg heart rate, max heart rate, and work time. I think retail si $60-$70, but I got mine 1/2 off from my local running store.

You can find the Polar S150 at Performance Bike for 70-80 and it has more functions and is bike specific:

I got a great deal on my Polar S150 from Bike Nashbar. Check out the polar website, they only have a few authorized online dealers. I think I bought my HRM off of amazon or something, but it came from Bike Nashbar. I did that so it would be covered on the warrenty.
