Subject: Pocket Knife Repair/Restoration
Long shot, but does anyone have any recommendations for repairing/restoring a pocket knife? I have my Grandfather's simple stainless (mostly) two-blade pocket knife that has some pieces rusted out. I did try the Google, but I was hoping to find someone here that has some first-hand experience. Thanks.

SOS pads put a very nice brushed finish on steel. I refinish/remove scratches from my stainless steel watch all the time. Good as new. Lansky has a decent sharpening set if you do not know how to do it by hand. Much better than anything a store will do. Just takes a little finger grease.

If you want a polish, then you go down in polishing compounds until you get what you want.

If you can take it apart do so. Other wise just scrub away. Oil it up, call it good. If there is wood, I'm sure you know what to do with that. You don't necessarily want to "refinish" that stuff, but get it clean.

I don't have any pocket knife experience per se, but I have a lot of cleaning experience from the Navy. 

Nevr-dull is a squids best friend.  It takes all the corrosion out.

Other than that, i'd recommend searching youtube for some restoration videos.

Not sure the model, but as an example, on most Swiss knives (Wenger, Victorinox) you can take off the plastic red housing by prying it off w/ a flathead screwdriver. They just snap in place. This can let you get at the small pivot points, etc. from other angles that you normally couldn't with them in place. I did this as a permanent thing w/ my knife after I lost the tweezers and toothpick...it made the knife way thinner and easier to put in pockets, etc.

SOS pads are good, but I like the brass "Chore Boy" pads better.
