Subject: Movie - World's Fastest IndianJust saw this movie yesterday. My wife and I thought it was really good. I'll leave the usual movie review stuff out and just point this out. The movie really touched a few elements that reminded me of our triathlon lifestyle. The long hours at home, alone, getting up before dawn to train. Endlessly fussing over equipment. Doing those little things you think will help you go faster. Neighbors thinking you are nuts. The journey to the race venue, whether it is down the street or across the country it is unique and filled with excitement and anticipation - and logistical issues. Seeing the race site in person, meeting the other athletes, talking with people you've never met from all walks of life who, somewhere deep inside, are just like you. The comraderie and almost instant friendship of people all there for a common purpose. Eyeballing the equipment and people you read/hear about but this time in person. Finally, rolling all of that up into a big ball of nervous energy and turning it into a performance that draws everything out of you and makes you feel a sense of accomplishment unlike anything you've ever felt before. |
