Subject: Hi! I'm Anders from Winchester, VA.
Wanted to introduce myself I'm a 35 year old, father of two toddler sons, living in Winchester, Virginia. After being told by Dr to exercise more due to slightly high cholesterol, I decided to finally get back in shape, like I had wanted to for so long. This was only three months ago and I just ran my first ever race (5k) this Thanksgiving. I am interested in triathlons as they are seemingly a great test of human endurance capabilities. My exercises the last three months have also consisted of exactly those three disciplines. My first goal is to do a sprint triathlon in Raystown, PA in May 2016. Id like to dream to complete an Ironman and my homecountry's Norseman in my lifetime. See if it sticks for that long

I am a Norwegian and grew up playing soccer and skiing. Came to the states 10 years ago. Now married to my american wife. I've spent my last seven years in motorsport becoming a club racecar driver (I raced a 93 BMW on roadcourses). I recently sold my racecar and will most likely move on to instructing more than racing in the future. Also have lots of other small projects and interests going on. I can get bored easily but also enjoy getting deeply involved in what I do. I hope becoming a triathlete will give the satisfaction it seems to trigger already. Less costly and risky, but perhaps more time consuming yet with many many benefits.

Would appreciate a personal mentor/online coach/triathlete friend as I dont know anyone at this point (which Im sure to change )

Welcome Anders and congratulations on your commitment to getting healthy and active!  I'm in Fairfax, but do most of my "in season" training out in Anne Arundel Co. MD.  There are a bunch of groups that train in the Reston area and one I believe in Leesburg, you should check them out.  Not sure if there are any that are closer to your area.

Welcome to the forums Anders. Echoing the poster above regarding the tri scene in the area.

I'd highly recommend looking into the VTS/MTS (http://www.vtsmts.com) -- they put on some awesome races, especially for beginners.

Thanks guys! Excited about the future Saw my hometown Bryne in Norway does a tri as well. Seems like a very popular sport.

As I entered the transition area, I got body marked. It was, for me, pretty intense. It made it so real...I was doing this! A triathlon!

My thanks to the triathlete community for being there when I need you. That’s the beautiful thing about triathletes. None of us are all right, and no one expects anyone else to be.
