Subject: Bike Travel Case reviews

Have seen a couple of questions here and there pop-up regarding the subject and I did a search on posts made about bike travel cases. I did not find one that discusses the "do's and don'ts" of purchasing nor a thread that reviews a large variety of individual bike cases.

To that end, please post your experience with the different bike cases you have used, what you liked and did not like about them (enough space, oversized for UPS, airlines, etc.?) and the price you paid for it.

Also, mention the methods utilized to ship your bike as well as any tips you would like to share about packing, shipping, unpacking/reassembling.

I have a number of out of town races this season and am looking to purchase a case in the near future ... so your advice and insight from your experience is much appreciated.

Brian,

Don't know if this'll answer all your questions, but its a start:

Bike Boxes Unpacked (Inside Triathlon, Oct-06)

While I haven't traveled with my bikes (yet), I saved this article knowing full well one day I'll be in the market for a bike box.

Don't - Get a soft case for a carbon bike unless you've got lots of cardboard to pad it out

Do - Get a hard side case that comes with plenty of foam
- Remember that a case sounds expensive at $200+, but with a couple of $K's worth of carbon shards rattling round in your bag/box thanks to the baggage "throwers" then you'll kick yourself.

Stupid question, but how should the tri bike be packed in the crate. Is there a way without having to remove the aero bars?
