Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 3:45 and drove to the course. 2.5 hour drive. Arrived at race site at 6:45 for 7:30 start.
Event warmup:

Did some light swimming in the lake prior to start.
Swim
  • 24m 49s
  • 1094 yards
  • 02m 16s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out strong, rounded the first bouy and was in traffic and felt a minor freak out coming so I went to a boat to compose myself. Started going agian and googles fogged up so I couldn't see. Stopped in a shallow area and fixed googles and started going agian. Got a little off track and corrected it and ended up in the middle of a large group and got bumped a bit. Swam to the final turn bouy and took a rest on the canoe because I wasn't feeling the swim. Started in and pushed it hard to the finish. Got out of the water and felt very tired and slowly jogged to transition.
What would you do differently?:

Get more swim practice in between events. Don't think I was ready for the swim since I only did 2 swims in the past couple weeks between FL and this race.
Transition 1
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Was a little shaky from the swim and took my time here. Got a gel and some liquids.
What would you do differently?:

Run from the water to T-1
Bike
  • 1h 09m 28s
  • 22 miles
  • 19.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Fun course, had some hills where you were able to gain some speed on the down hills which was very fun. Some of the climbs were a bit tough but overall a very good course. Was pleased with my bike performance on this event.
What would you do differently?:

Do some hill work and get legs stronger.
Transition 2
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Don't know why this took so long here. Took in another Gel. T-2 time seems a bit long.
What would you do differently?:

Work on Transitions and get my routine down.
Run
  • 51m 40s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

First lap wasn't that good. Legs felt really stiff and had to do so a walk run type lap. Got to the second lap and ran most of the way, only walking at water stations to get my fluids in. Thought I was going a little slower then my actual time so I am happy with this leg.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a little bit and checked results. Had a lot of things to do back home that afternoon so wasn't able to stay around very long since I had a 2hr drive home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not training enought between FL and this event. Two weeks of minimul training and eating badly effected my preformance I think.

Event comments:

Good race. Tri in the Parks is putting on a great series and I am looking forward to the next event.

You did way better than you think.  You "managed" the swim and had a strong pace on bike and run to finish very strong.  I think a Half Iron is a big deal, and racing three weeks later is quite an achievement.

Nice job!

It was great to share a rack with you again. Congrats on your race. You did awesome for just coming off the HIM. I'll see you at Indian Springs.
