I Did my first Sprint last weekend, the Topeka Tinman. The atmosphere of the triathlon was the greatest thing I ever experienced. I never met so many nice people. Six months ago I didn't know anything about swimming or triathlons. I was a powerlifter, I lifted weights heavy and was strong and stocky at 5'7" and 180 lbs". I then decided to slim down. I lost 30 pounds, went from a 33 to 28 inch waist, and discovered I had abbs. I wanted a knew challenge. I friend of mine mentioned a triathlon, I researched on-line, which led me here. I started looking at bikes, joined the YMCA to swim , and ran a little. No program or nothing. I went to the Y the first time, swam 25 meters and was dead. I had no idea how to swim. Then I bought a road bike, didn't even know what an aero bar was. Finally I kept looking on-line and hired a USAT coach to help me swim. My coach got me on a training program .I started to ask questions and could not get enough info about triathlons. I watched the Ironman 25 clip on-line three times a day for motivation. I got aerobars on my bike. I bought the total Immersion DVD, made drill cards and swam everyday. After my first Sprint I an more motivated. In 6 weeks I went from swimming 25 meters to 800 meters without stopping, running 2 miles to 6 at a time, and biking 8 to 25 miles. A training program is a must.

Now I can't get enough. I am hooked I love this sport. I train, eat, and sleep. Oh ya I work too. Instead of lifting six days a week and running twice a week, 1.5 miles at a time my workouts have changed a little!!!(a ton). I am more motivated than ever, I have a knew outlook on life and love being around fit people with the same goals. Mitch Thrower has a Video on www.veoh.com called Triathlon Memories, in one part it says..Change your Life, Do a Triathlon. I did and it can't be more true. Next Summer Half Ironman, Summer 2009 Ironman!!!

Also I am a single father with full custody of 2 little girls, and a police officer. IF I CAN TRAIN FOR A TRIATHLON ANYBODY CAN...DO IT AND CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

I am doing the Midwest Mayhem in Lawrence, the swim is 500 and I hear the bike is hilly. I am going to do my first full course in Kansas City at the Midwest Meltdown Sept. 9th. Were are you from?

Wow...that's awesome!  Quite a body/mental transformation too...do you like those abs now?

Good luck on the rest of your race year.
