In case you haven't heard yet...

"The Market To Market Relay will be the first long distance relay race in the state of Nebraska, this challenging course was created by a runner for runners as a unique and fun event. The course is broken up into 24 stages with each runner taking on three to four stages depending on the total number of runners on your team."

I lived in Colorado for a few years and had friends who did the Outward Bound relay....they always had a blast. This sounds pretty fun and the individual legs are not too bad.

This sounds like an absolute blast. Unfortunately I don't know 5 other runners that I could get to do this and there is also a Husker game at Texas Tech that day. What to do, what to do???

Hope all are well.

Um... hello?! Team BT Nebraska of course! I know Brynn and I are going to do it, plus her brother is almost afraid that we're not going to let him be on our team [even though he's like twice as fast as we are], so there's 3 right there! I think Jeremy_424 is a 90% sure shot, and we might be able to convince Veganman to join up in between HIM & IMs

Ali - are you in/maybe? Wonder what Beth is doing that weekend...

So I am assuming this will be from the Old Market to the Hay Market? Why do they have so little information on the web site??

Yep, starting at 11th & Howard and going to Haymarket [somewhere, can't tell from the website but the last exchange is 8th & Charleston with a .15 mi "team" leg to the finish line]. There's actually quite a bit of info on the site, including each leg's exchange point, distance, even elevation [looks like person 3 on a 6 person team gets the brunt of the hills], as well as the directions for each leg. There's a map and elevation profile for the entire course here, as well as an option to view each stage.

Then only info the site doesn't have is what type of nutrition will be at each exchange point [if any] and what the entry fee will be, which I'm assuming we'll find out Saturday when registration opens.

Bah - it's like 11 miles if you're on an 8 person team! Even if every person ran at a 9:00 pace and all stages were equal [3.7 mi/each] you'd only run every 233 min, or 3h 53 min. You could do THAT by October! C'mon Fifth!

I could be persuaded to join team BT... If I get into the Nike Women's Marathon (I find out Tuesday), it'll be a week before that and may be a fun way to taper.

Game day - hopefully an away game?  Cost?  . . .I could be persuaded if we have enough folks to join to spread that around.  And Brian is right, it is broken up into small runs - anyone here could do it by October!  Sounds like a unique experience.  I'll bet I could talk my wife into it to (just mention it and she'll respond  Yeaaaaahhh).

Dudes... OUCH:

Early Registration 3/15/08 to 9/9/08
$400 per Team
Late Registration 9/10/08 to 10/9/08
$450 per Team
Additional Registration Information
[1] Divisions
[2] Minimum Team Speed: Teams are required to run an average of 10 minute miles. See more rules
[3] Can we change our team after we register? Yes, consult the Team Roster Changes Policy

$400/8 people=$50/each.
$400/7 people=$57/each.
$400/6 people=$67/each.

It's cool that they broke up the individual segments by how many members your team has. For example, on an 8-person team the shortest combined segments would be for runner #8 at 7.60 miles, broken up into 3.33, 4.12, and 0.15 [final "team" segment]. The longest combined segments would be for runner #5 at 12.62 miles, broken up into 4.90, 5.00, and 2.72 [plus I'm assuming the 0.15 is tacked on at the end for a total of 12.77 mi]. Go here to check it out!

Yeah, I could do that...now actually. I would be running an 11min pace, but I could do it. I sent a link to my uncle and he thought it was kinda cool. I'll have to see later on in the year if I am interested/faster.

Oh yeah, and I edited my post earlier because I went back to the website and found all the info.

Well, for early registration it looks like we have a few months to get this all figured out. I'm still interested and can run 10 minute miles for distances up to 5 miles right now, so could probably do most legs by October. Found out yesterday that I won't know if I'm in the Nike marathon until April 1st...so still waiting on that info. Team of 8 would be nice, just to spread out the runs and the expense!

Hopefully I can make John Phillip Sousa proud! Dudes, one snag we're running into is that we don't have a van! Anybody have a van that we could use for a day? They don't allow vehicles wider than 7 feet [i.e. no motor homes/RVs] and each team has to have only one vehicle [I think]. Yikes!

You mean I can't bring the firetruck? Thats crap. Jeff has a van, I'm sure I could drag him along. Chip in some gas $ and I bet he wouldn't mind. Or I can sit 6 in my truck.

Dude.... I think we would DEFINITELY win the vehicle contest if we could use the firetruck! I'd even pay to have a BFD T-shirt printed up. Maybe you could bring some boots along and at every exchange point we could get there early, hang out late, and we could get spare $$$ from people to support the department?! That would be awesome.

Okay so who we have for "sure" [barring injuries/illness/financial calamity]:

Me
Brynn
Brynn's brother
Jeremy_424
KMAC40

And we have some "undecided" or "un-asked":
Aliclimb
Jeff417
Kevin's wife

Assuming everybody was up for it we would have 8 and it would be $50/each. If we only have the 'sures' then we're down at least 1 before we could consider competition. With only 6 it comes out to $66/each which I'd be willing to pay if we could only get 6 but I'd feel a lot better with more people to help with the cost and to defer some of the mileage. Ali will get the notification on this email and hopefully let us know if she got into the Nike Women's Marathon or not so that means Kevin and Jeremy need to contact their significant others [yes, Jeff is Jeremy's SO in this case ] so we can try to pin down a number and start the registration process. With some people in Beatrice and some in Council Bluffs we might have to mail the registration form around in order to get all the signatures we need! I don't think this thing will sell out very quickly [if at all] so there's not a HUGE rush, but there is always the potential that it could sell out so I figger it's better to be safe than sorry

Let me know if I forgot anything.

And find us a van!

Instead of mailing the registration form around, why not have a group training run in Lincoln? That way it all gets done at once and it more fun. Just an idea.

Okay that means we're at 7 and Ali is a go for the Nike Women's Marathon which is the week after this event in San Fran so I doubt she'll want to be fooling around with all of us and end up getting herself injured before such an awesome opportunity! I'm going to list the total mileages of each runner and see what everybody thinks about this setup. The costs are listed above and I'm cool with a 7 person team but the mileage is kinda heavy. 3 people run over a 1/2 marathon. Here goes nothing:

1. 13.79 Hard
2. 13.80 Medium
3. 11.57 Medium-Hard
4. 11.37 Easy-Medium
5. 13.89 Easy
6. 10.80 Easy-Medium
7. 9.77- Medium

An 8-person team would look like this:

1. 10.62 Hard
2. 9.99 Medium-Hard
3. 11.44 Medium
4. 11.92 Easy-Medium
5. 12.62 Easy-Medium
6. 9.75 Easy-Medium
7. 11.07 Medium
8. 7.60 Easy-Medium

Am I just being a mileage weenie? I mean, by the time this rolls around almost everyone on the team will have done a marathon in the past 18 months and everyone will have done a half-mary. Let me know your thoughts.

YES. I am willing to do any of those mileages (is that even a word?).

We may want to wait until we get closer to the date to hand out the specific miles because we may need to strategize because of the whole 10-minute mile thing. As much as I would love to say that 13 10-minute miles is doable, I'm not sure that it is for me. And maybe for some others on the team. It may make sense to give the fast folks the easy routes so they can give us more of a cushion, but I don't know.
