So its my third day of riding, and every day I've fallen and figured today would be no different.  All the times I have fallen have been where I am at a stop sign with one foot unclipped waiting for traffic to pass and I lose my balance and fall on my still clipped in side and look really dumb infront of a bunch of people.  Today was a little bit different.

I was cruising along a local paved trail after it rained a little bit and around a turn there was a girl running in the middle of the path, so I moved a little bit over to the right and to my horror a nice patch of fresh mud with the viscosity of greased lightning was waiting for me.  My bike went one direction and I kept going my original direction at 15 mph.  I met the pavement, slid for a few feet, and all the words I could muster was "God dang it."  She asked if I was alright and kept running.  I got up looked at my bike, didn't do anything more than scratch the plastic on my gear levers, and an abrasion to my left elbow and hip.  So I hopped back on and finished my work out, at a much slower pace!  Don't think I'll be doing that trail anymore!

Oh, man! Yeah the clippy pedals are hard to get used to. From the first day I had them (fell twice getting used to them), I got so paranoid about falling I unclip BOTH feet at every stop. It's a little uncomfortable but worth the peace of mind.

Keep at it, you'll get it.

JARROD - 2008-08-01 1:43 PM I always like the guy who "tries" to balance on two wheels at stoplights. It never fails...he always falls on his face.

My other one last week was pretty bad, I had just got done doing a 40 mile ride and was at a stop light facing up hill.  The light changed and I started pedaling but just didn't have enough gas for the gear I was in and fell right over.

Your thread is cracking me up! I can totally see you eating pavement. But on the bright side, from the looks of the picture you sent me the other day of your bike all strapped into your trainer you should at least cut your tip over rate by at least a half. For you my friend I would suggest wearing your helmet all the time, even on your trainer, the concrete floor of the fire department apparatus bay isnt too cushy.

Funny I found you on this site, reading your threads about checking out the ladies and crashing you sounded awful familular.

As for motivation, you are the last person I would expect to need it. Between our work and class hours I think its hard to find time to train, not motivation. I think your doing great with all things considered.

See you in class!

Oh and by the way cute profile picture, Im suprised that the girl on the trail didnt ask for your autograph that picture looks a lot like david hasselhoff in baywatch.  : )  But i would have probably snickered and kept running too.
