So...I just finished my first tri on my 12 yr old MTB...I really enjoyed it and have also found that I like cycling and am considering buying a new bike this fall...I picked up a Trek book at my LBS and kind of got my heart set on a Pilot WSD...but now I look on their website and find that they aren't making the pilot anymore....so my question is should I buy an older model if it is available?  Anyone have any thoughts on a similar bike?

The Pilot is a fine bike...I test rode one during my search for a new bike last spring. It has a more upright geometry with a relaxed riding position. With the 09's hitting the stores soon, you should be able to find some great deals on an 08 Pilot WSD. Have you test ridden one yet? Do you know what size you need? I would start shopping around now for the best selection...it might take some searching before you find one in your size. Check the larger volume dealers in your area first...as they will most likely have a larger stock of them sitting around and will want to move them out quickly.

AdventureBear has a Pilot WSD.  She doesn't post much anymore but I bet you could get her opinion with a PM.

I have a 2005 Pilot 5.2. I love the bike. Would have liked to have a slightly stiffer bike, but for long rides and general purpouse it is a great bike. I have just found that racing in shorter races, it dose not seem as fast as the bike I replaced. Mind you, it may be the lack of training too, but I like to blame the bike

Thanks for the info...I do not know what size, nor have I test rode it...I still have some research to do before I make a decision, but I kind of had it in my head that a least going into the process that it was my first choice.  I have not had a road bike in 12 years so thought I would like the more upright position.  Anyway thanks for the opinions and if anyone else has any I would love to hear them.
