I haven't seen a post race thread on either of these events (both were held this past Sat. on Amelia Island at Main Beach). I saw Dan A down there (finished 1st in the Olympic- great job) as well as A Dollar, and Clancy (they had good races). What did you guys think? I did the 1/2 ironman (the Atlantic Coast Tri) and have nothing but good things to say. It was a 1st time race so any minor glitches I kind of expected and gave them a pass on. Very scenic in my opinion and should grow in numbers as word get's out of it's success (in my opinion).
The guy that won the 1/2 finished in 4:15 and change and looked like he was having a training day.

I loved the run through Ft. Clinch with the trees lining the road creating a canopy-like tunnel of shade. There were a few sections were the sun hit you full on (running out of T1, you had a 3 mile section on the beach roads), but otherwise, it was a nice treat to run in shade. Well stocked aid stations too.

Overall, a very nice island to vacation on. Not commercialized like some beaches that have all the airbrush t-shirt and trinket shops.

Great race KP.  I tried to holler at you a few times after the race but you had that zombie look in your face and then you disappeared.

I liked the race and the course.  It was so nice to race the flats.  The run into the park was awesome.  The shade was such a benefit.    I am sure Dan will chime in as he has some technical issues on the course.

I would race it again.  IIRC, the RD said they are keeping the half in that time slot but that they are moving the Oly to late April....just before St. A's.

I did the Oly and loved it. The run course in particular was nice. I read in a race report that the unshaded section (the spin around the parking lot) made many people grateful for the shade. The only flub I heard of was that a volunteer misdirected a few people on the run and they did not realize it for a few miles. There was plenty of support and the volunteers were great. I would have liked to stay down there a few more days as a end of summer vacation. I will consider doing the half next year.

KP,

I tried to say hey to you, but after giving it your all, I know you were out of it.  Great job out there btw!

I enjoyed the race overall.  I think it was very scenic and they did all the things they should have.  As with any new race, they will have some growing pains.  But the best thing of all was that the RD was very receptive to feeback (good and bad) and took it to heart.  You can tell that he wants his races to be great ones and will work extremely hard to do that.

Unfortunately, I only got to see about 2 miles of the shaded portion of the run course.  I came out of T2 in second place and the volenteer told us to go on the 1/2 mary course.  I actually stopped and asked if they had changed the course because I didn't want to get DQ'd.  He said yes, so I charged forward.  They sent a golf cart to lead the front runner, so until we make it back to the "turn around", we didn't know we were off course.  I had to self adjust the distance and the RD went back and checked to see that we had actually run the approximate 10K distance.  We actually ran a bit more he said.

But, it was VERY well done and I think this will be a great race in the future.

This might make a nice first Olympic next year. Plus a free place to stay is an extra win.

Gonna put it on the calendar.
