Total Time = 1h 02m 51s
Overall Rank = 18/194
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/31
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5.25am
Banana and energy bar
Registered at 6.15am, numbered and walked around.
Orientated swim course to transition and bike course

Event warmup:

Easy spin on the bike prior to racking it in transition, went for a 10 min jog down the run course. Few stretches and kept warm with jumper and beanie.
Swim
  • 08m 38s
  • 500 meters
  • 01m 44s / 100 meters
Comments:

Had bad start, couldn't get clean water so breathing and stroke suffered. 2nd half of swim I go some clean water and made up a few positions.
What would you do differently?:

Not much you could do, I thought I positioned well on the outside but the current in the river bunched everyone together.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Good transition. No suit so good fast transition - picked out around 8 positions
What would you do differently?:

Best T1 I've ever had.
Bike
  • 34m 27s
  • 20 kms
  • 34.83 km/hr
Comments:

Felt good, made up a few positions. Tough headwind along the front of the course but on the turn around it gave you a great tailwind. Clocked 54km/hr+ on one stretch every lap and maintained a 42-44km/hr pace along the flat.
What would you do differently?:

did well, happy with the ride. Hard to judge effort with the headwind / tailwimd swirls.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Had a good T2, lost a shoe out of the cleat while running and thought I'd loose time picking it up but a marshall kindly yelled that they'd pick it up for me. (saved me probably 30sec).Running shoes went on better this time as I was better prepared (tounge pulled right out so I could grab it)
What would you do differently?:

Very happy. Fast transition, picked up 2 spots.
Run
  • 19m 45s
  • 5 kms
  • 03m 57s  min/km
Comments:

Didn't drink at all on the run after last race ( bad stitch)
felt OK, thought I had used too much effort on the bike but settled into a good pace. Got passed by 2 people early in the run but eventually passed 5 people all up over the course.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing...good run
Post race
Warm down:

Walk around, got some fruit and gatorade. Free massage. Found a few guys I knew for a quick chat.
Gave my wife a big hug for cheering me on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

more training will produce more strenght and speed, however I felt I did well. Enviromental factors such as wind were probably the biggest limiting factor.

Event comments:

PODIUM FINISH -------2ND IN AGE GROUP
Good race despite a 15min delayed start. Good course. Swim was affected by an outgoing tide - fairly strong current. Ride was good with short hills and good straights. Flat run made for good times. All in all I had a top time.
Absolutely stoked with result

I read your times for each section of the race and drool...... oh to have your speed.

Your logs show you are dedicated to training and you certainly deserve all rewards you receive.

Very impressive.

Thanks for the comments guys, It was a great race with a result I was absolutely stoked with but in no way though possible. Backing up for a longer sprint race this weekend (club race) so I'll see how much it has taken out of me .

P.S - I'm having the time of my life...this sport is so addictive
