Subject: What does an entry tri bike weigh?
Until I actually complete a triathlon I'm not allowing myself to buy a new bike. That means I'm riding my Specialized Allez 58cm road bike purchased in ~1997. Weight when road ready (spare tubes, frame pump, aero bars, but no fluids) is 28 pounds. What are bikes weighing nowadays?  Just curious what sort of weight improvement I can look forward to (in addition to the 20 pounds I still want to lose from my own personal frame)

I don't have any experience with Tri bikes, but you're right, making in road ready could make the weight creep up pretty quickly. When I make people pick up my bike, I take the waterbottles out of the cages, so it seems really light. It's about 16.5lbs. I don't put anything besides bottles on my bike, but I carry my CO2, tube and tire irons in my jersey, so yeah, some extra weight comes along with me.

I think you could definitely get a lighter bike when you are ready to purchase a new one. There's been a lot of improvements since 1997. There's big differences in wheels too, so it's possible to have a light bike with heavy wheels and that will make the weight creep up too.

Anyway, just have fun. And post pictures when you get a new bike.

I believe my 2007 Trek 1500SLR is listed at 18 lbs.  Carbon fork and the rest is aluminum.  Like others, I have 2 CO's, a pump, bag full of tools, spare tube and two water bottles.

My advice is , find a modern bike with modern components that fits you and you are comfortable riding.
