Subject: Cutting Deep Dish Rims for access to Valve Stem
I'm looking at buying a used Quitana Roo Caliente and the previous owner cut the deep dish portion of the rims because he got tired of missing with the valve extension.  He probably only cut about an inch (there not very deep).  I'm trying to attach a photo but didn't have any luck.  Whats your thoughts on this.  Has anyone else done this.  Will this screw up the rims?

Thanks for the help.

What kind of rims are they?

Most deep rims are structural while others are simply a fairing.

They are just standard rim's with the cover.  Nonstructural.

Are you talking about a disc cover?  If so, then they come with a cutout to access the valve and even if made bigger, no worries.

Unless it's a disc cover, I wouldn't buy any wheels that someone I don't know or trust has taken a cutting instrument to. It almost assuredly voids whatever warranty is on the wheels. Not worth it. Tell the guy you're interested in the bike but he can keep the wheels, because you'll have a hard time unloading them too.
