Subject: Newbie...needs training advice!
Hi everyone, I was looking at the free programs (a first timer here) and see that there are 16-week Olympic plans.  What I am wondering is how I can tailor that to help me train properly for my triathlon.  I have been training already and am 8 weeks away from my tri in August.  The newbie schedule I was following is behind where I am fitness wise but because this is my first mini-tri I want to make sure I'm ready and not over training, etc. Here's info on the tri:

500 meter swim
15 mile bike
5K run

Does anyone have recommendations on how I can adjust the Olympic schedule to make sure I'm ready but not overdoing it?

Thanks a lot!

Jessie

Can you provide a little more detail on what your current plans call for and in what ways it is behind where you are at fitness-wise (e.g. what training have you done last couple weeks vs. what the plan calls for)?

Why? If I'm reading him correctly, he's looking at an Oly plan and already doing more than it suggests, why should he drop down and do less?

Often you'll do better in the shorter distances when you are training for longer...

Hey thanks everyone.  I was doing boot camp 3 x per week and then running, swimming and biking three times a week.  So far my "max" has been running 3 miles (I can run non stop), biking 9-10 miles, and swimming 300 meters.  I stopped boot camp a week ago and am now focusing more on the triathlon training and will still incorporate strength training 2x per week as well.

So far, here's what 8 weeks from race (count down) calls for (this week):

Monday-off
Tuesday- S:300 yards + Run 20 minutes
Wednesday: Bike 8 miles
Thursday: Swim 300 yards + walk 30 minutes
Friday: Off
Saturday: Run 40 minutes
Sunday: Bike 10 miles

Up to the race, 2 weeks remaining, here's what the newbie triathlon schedule shows:
Monday: off
Tuesday: S-600 yards + Run 30 minutes
Wednesday: Bike 15 miles
Thursday: S: 600 yards + 45 minute walk
Friday: off
Saturday: Run 60 min
Sunday: B: 20 M +Walk 30 minutes

Week of the race, it tapers down a bit but similar in structure (500 yard swim on Monday, etc.)

Jessica (sorry I used my nickname and spelled it like a male)

Again, the triathlon is: 500 meter swim, 15 mile bike and 5K run

Thanks for your time & help!! I'm just wondering if the newbie schedule (posted above) will be sufficient or if I should increase my distance or time like the Olympic plan shows??
