Today was my first OWS in a rented wetsuit and I did 900 meters without becoming overly tired. The extra buoyancy is just sick; I felt like I didn't have to kick at all. My upper arms are a bit more tired than normal. My tri shop only had a short in my size which was a little constricting and I think contributed to my arm soreness.

I didn't bother to time anything as I'm just concentrating on form and energy savings in the water for my first tri. I also don't want to have any set expectations other than feeling comfortable and in control in the water.

Bodyglide was awesome for the wrists and ankles. The suit pretty much slid right off with minimal tugging. Next time I'll go a little higher on the forearms and calves as the sweating tended to make the wetsuit cling a little higher than I expected.

I was a little dizzy exiting the water, but it wasn't out of control and I was able to practice T1 without tipping over with dizzyness.

Thanks to all the tips and threads people have contributed here. This site has really helped me to feel prepared for what is to come. Only 14 days til my first tri and I couldn't be more excited.

Curious how much faster you thought you were with the wetsuit?  Per 100 yds.

I did my first today as well (although much shorter for various reasons) but was laughing when I was out a bit and wanted to stop and look around and had to really battle to get my legs to go down.  Hehe, buoyancy is fun!  And at least I know if I panic tomorrow I'm certainly not going to sink.

Being an idiot, I didn't even think about putting Body Glide on the ankles or wrists, but I found out I do have to Glide the neck, or I'll get a wicked rash.

I timed myself today in the pond at 2:04/100 yards which is about what I swim in the pool for an 800 yard effort. My level of effort was much lower than in the pool, though.

Take this with a large grain of salt as my pacing is pretty bad. I have very little swimming experience and I have a hard time differentiating between levels of effort. I basically tried to swim slowly today to ensure I would have sufficient energy to finish. I probably could have picked up some speed if I had been willing to push myself a bit.
